story – The disciples of Gautama Buddha often asked questions which were related to the lifestyle of Buddha. The Buddha used to give a big message with answers to questions.
One day Buddha’s disciple Anand asked, “When you give discourses, you sit on a high place and listeners sit down. Isn’t this the difference? Why is it differentiated? Are you a Mahatma, so are the listeners younger? ‘
Buddha said to Anand, ‘Anand, tell me, have you ever drank water from a waterfall?’
Anand said, ‘Yes, I drank water from a waterfall.’
Buddha asked, ‘How did you drink water?’
Anand said, ‘The waterfall was flowing from above, I stood under the waterfall and drank water.’
Buddha said, ‘You got the answer to your point. If you want to drink water from a waterfall, then you have to stand down. In a satsang, story or discourse, the person who sits in it sits. If you want to accept the message of that story, then the listener will have to sit down. The humility that comes in our nature by sitting down, is what inspires us to bring good things into life. It is not a matter of big or small, it is about the mindset from which a good idea is taken.
Learning If a good thing is to be brought into life, then the ego should be given up first. For anyone who is listening well, there should be a sense of respect in his mind. Good things can be brought down in life only with humility.
