The month of Chaitra starts from the very next day of Falgun Purnima i.e. Holika Dahan. This time the first month of the Hindu calendar will be from 29 March to 27 April. There are important Teej-festivals and festivals in the month of Chaitra and also during this month, spring season is also there. Therefore, this first month of the Hindu calendar is very special. This time there will be 5 Mondays and 5 Tuesdays in the month of Chaitra. Also, despite the fluctuation of dates, this month will remain for 30 days. There is not much Teej festival in this month’s Krishnapaksha. But half a dozen fasts and festivals will remain.

Festivals celebrated in Chaitra Krishna Paksha (29 March to 12 April)
On the Saptami of Krishnapaksha of Chaitra month, Sheetla Mata is worshiped and cold food is served. In some places, this fast is observed on Ashtami. This time this fast will be done on 4th and 5th April. On the next day i.e. 6th April, Dashmi Tithi will be worshiped and fasted on this day. Both of these fasts are done for happiness, peace and prosperity in the family. Then on April 7, Ekadashi will be fasted on Papamochini Ekadashi. This time the last day of Krishnapaksha i.e. Amavasya Tithi is on Monday 12th. Therefore, Somvati Amavasya festival will be celebrated on this day with pilgrimage bath, donation and worship of ancestors.

Festivals of Chaitra Shukla Paksha (from 13 to 27 April)
New Year will begin with Gudi Padwa festival on Tuesday, 13 April. Chaitra Navratri will also start from this day. On its next day i.e. April 14, the Sun will enter Aries. Kharmas will also end with this. After this, Ram Navami will be observed on Wednesday, April 21 and Kamada Ekadashi on Friday, April 23. Then on 25 April, Mahavir Swami Jayanti will be celebrated on Sunday. On the last day of Chaitra month i.e. 27 April, Hanuman Prakashyotsava will be celebrated on full moon day.
