story- Today, 30 November is the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji, the founder of Sikhism. Guru Nanak always used to roam and through his conduct, gave the message of happy life to the disciples and the society. His blessings were not easily understood by all. Only those who knew him understood his words. His blessings were very simple, but his meaning was quite deep.

Once Guru Nanak reached a village with his disciples. The people of that village were very unique. When the people of the village came to know about Guru Nanak, everyone came to pay tribute to his camp. At that time Guru Nanak blessed a group of people to ‘settle down’ i.e. to stay here.

After some time another group came and Gurunanak told them to ‘get desolate’.

The disciples asked Guru Nanak, ‘What a blessing it is? You call one group to settle down and the other group says desolate. ‘

Guru Nanak said, ‘The first group of people came, their people were not good. All are engaged in evil deeds. It is good if the wrong people stay in one place. At least evil will not spread in society. Therefore, I blessed them to settle here. The people of the other group were good, so I blessed them to desolate, so that wherever they go they will spread goodness and do good to the society. ‘

Learning Guru Nanak’s message is that we should spread the good and we should eliminate the evil in one place, that is, eliminate it. This is the welfare of us and society.
