At around 9.45 am on March 11, the Moon will enter Aquarius from Capricorn. After this, Mercury will also enter Capricorn from Aquarius at around 11.30. Because of this, both Mercury and Moon will be formed in Aquarius. Mercury is the factor of the intelligence and lunar mind. Worshiping Shiva on Shivaratri keeps both intellect and mind under control.
This is how you can worship on Shivaratri
In the general worship of Shivji, offer water with a copper pot on the Shivling. Offer milk with a silver pot. Necklaces, sandalwood, janeu, white clothes should be offered. Offer different grains and flowers on Shivling as well. In worship, you can recite the chanting of Shiva.
Akshat means offer rice. Take care not to break the rice. Also offer black sesame, standing moong, barley, wheat, lotus flowers, white lotus.
Do not forget to offer bilvapatra, datura, figure flowers on the Shivling.
Offer sweets to God. Perform aarti by lighting incense and lamps.
Apologize to God for unknown mistakes made in worship. After the puja, distribute the prasad to other devotees and accept it yourself.

According to Pt Sharma, Shiva and Goddess Parvati were married on this date in ancient times. For this reason, along with Shiva, on this day, Goddess Parvati must also be specially worshiped.
