The fast of Rath Saptami, dedicated to Lord Sun God, is kept on the Saptami date of Shuklapaksha in the month of Magha. It is believed that bathing, donation, home, worship performed on this day gives a thousand times more fruit. It is on 19 February this time. Raths go for a pilgrimage bath at sunrise on Saptami day. It is believed that taking a pilgrimage during this time provides freedom from diseases and one gets good health. For this reason Rath Saptami is also known as Arogya Saptami.

Importance of Magha Saptami in 7 Puranas
The significance of this day is explained in Brahma, Skanda, Shiva, Agni, Matsya, Narada and Bhavishya Purana. It is told in these Puranas that on the seventh day of Shuklapaksha of Magh month, pilgrimage and sun worship removes diseases as well as lifespan. Donation done on this day gives a renewable result. Also, by fasting on this day, children get happiness and desire is also fulfilled.

Worshiped with red flowers and incense
After taking bath, Arghyadan is offered to the Sun God at sunrise. Arghyadan is performed by slowly offering water from the urn to the Sun God. During this ritual, the devotees should be in namaskar mudra and face towards the direction of the Sun God. The devotees then worship the Sun God with ghee lamps and red flowers, camphor and incense sticks. It is believed that by performing all these rituals, the Sun God grants good health, longevity and success.
