Special features of Karthik Purnima

This full moon is also called Tripurari Purnima and Dev Deepavali. In ancient times, on this date, Shiva killed the monster named Tripurasura, hence it is called Tripurari Purnima.

Another belief is that on this day there is a Diwali of the gods. That is why it is called Dev Deepavali. From this day, the baths of Kartik month will end. Bathing, lamp donation, puja, aarti, havan and donation in the holy river on Kartik Purnima are of great importance.

You can do this auspicious work on Kartik Purnima

  • For Lord Vishnu, the story of Lord Satyanarayan should be done.
  • It is a tradition to bathe in the holy rivers on this day. Bathing is followed by lamp donation, puja, aarti and donation.
  • On Kartik Purnima, fruits, grains, pulses, rice, warm clothes etc. should be donated to the poor.
  • One should wake up early in the morning on Kartik Purnima. Mix a little Ganges water in water and take a bath. All the pilgrimages should be meditated while taking bath. Offer water to the sun after bathing.
  • Offer water on the Shiva lingam and chant the ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ mantra. Do the consecration. Perform Aarti by burning camphor. Along with Shiva, do special worship to Ganeshji, Mata Parvati, Kartikeya Swamy and Nandi.
  • On full moon, light a lamp in front of Hanuman and recite Hanuman Chalisa.
