One day a disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa asked why the mind of the people could not be engaged in devotion?

The disciple asked Paramahansa that there is distraction in human mind to get worldly things and to fulfill lusts. People keep trying to fulfill these worldly desires. Why are people not so eager to do devotion?

Paramhansa ji said that due to ignorance of the people, people are unable to pay attention to devotion. People continue to get material things and fulfill their worldly desires. Because of this the person is unable to pay attention to God.

Those who want to do devotion, should abandon all desires and meditate and worship God with selfless spirit. Only then can the grace of God be attained. If there are desires, concentration will not be formed even while worshiping. The mind will keep wandering and devotion will not be there.

The disciple asked how can this illusion of desires and Kama escape from lusts?

Paramahansa ji said that only earthly things are called bhoga, till this bhog ends, our mind will not be able to devote our devotion to God.

When a child is busy playing with toys, he does not remember his mother. When her mind is filled with toys, her game is over, then she remembers her mother. The same situation is with us. As long as our mind remains in the worldly things and sex toys, we will not even remember our mother, the divine.
