Shitla Shashthi fast is observed on the Shashthi (sixth) date of the bright fortnight of Magh month. This time, the fast of Sheetla Shashthi will be observed on 17 February i.e. today. At the same time, in some places this fast is observed on 6 days after Holi i.e. Saptami Tithi. Mata Sheetla should be duly worshiped on this day. It is believed that observing this fast gives the mind a coolness.
On this day, Shitala Devi is worshiped after bathing in the morning. After this, one day meal is prepared before eating stale food. On this day the stove is not lit in the house. Sheetla Devi is happy by observing this fast. This is the time of winter. On this day, by fasting and worshiping, Mata Sheetla is wished to get rid of diseases.
Get up early in the morning on Sheetla Shashthi fast and take a vow after taking bath. After that, put white cloth on wooden slab or post and install the idol or picture of Sheetla Mata on it. On this day, keep in mind that do not forget to consume hot foods. The stove is not lit in the house on Sheetla Shashthi. All the food should be prepared and kept at night in halwa, dumpling, etc. Bathing with hot water is also prohibited on this day. Therefore, cold water ie cold water should be bathed on Sheetla Shashthi.
