Bhai Dooj is the last day of Deepotsav on Monday, 16 November. On this day the brother dines at his sister’s house. This tradition maintains love between brothers and sisters. It is believed that on this day, the sister prays to Yamraj and Chitragupta for her brother’s long life, good luck and good health. According to Pt. Manish Sharma, Jyotishacharya of Ujjain, by eating food at the sister’s house on this date, the age of the brother increases.
The story of this festival is related to Yamraj and Yamuna
The Dwitiya of the Shukla Paksha of Kartik month is called Bhai Dooj and Yama Dwitiya. In olden times, on this date, Yamuna called her brother Yama to his house and had food. Pleased with the hospitality of Yamuna, Yamraj had given that the person who will bathe in Yamuna and worship Yama on this day will get freedom from all troubles. For this reason, bathing in Yamuna on this day has special significance.
Sister should pray for brother’s good fortune
On this day, sister and brother should worship Yama and Chitragupta by law. Pray that like Markandeya, Hanuman, Bali, Parashurama, Vyas, Vibhishan, Kripacharya and Ashwatthama make my brother Chiranjeevi like these eight Chiranjeevis. In this way, in worship, the sister prays her brother’s long life and good fortune.
After the puja, the sisters feed the brother. Tilak is applied. The sibling gives someone a gift.
If it is not possible to bathe in the river Yamuna, then add Yamuna water to your home and take a bath. If there is no water of Yamuna river then take a bath while meditating on the holy river. After bath, worship Yamraj and Yamuna and chant mantras. Chant the mantra at least 11, 21 or 108 times.

Yamuna mantra – Yamsavasarnamastesu Yamuna Lokpujithe. In Varada Bhava, you always have Suryaputri Namoastu.
