Fasting of Safala Ekadashi has been described as very important in Hindu religious texts. According to belief, Lord Vishnu is worshiped on this day and doing so fulfills all desires.

Actually Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Pausha month is called Safala Ekadashi. Safala means success, it is believed that by fasting on this Ekadashi, all tasks are successful, hence it is called Safala Ekadashi. Lord Achyuta is worshiped on this day.

Safala Ekadashi Puja Method
1. The devotees observing the fast of Safala Ekadashi should worship Lord Achutha on this day. The method of this fast is as follows-
2. After taking bath early in the morning, God should offer incense, lamps, fruits and panchamrit etc.
3. Lord Achyuta should be worshiped with coconut, betel nut, amla pomegranate and cloves etc.

4. It is of great importance to perform a Jagran at night on this day and chant the name of Shri Hari.
5. On Dwadashi the next day of fasting, by giving food to a needy person or a Brahmin, giving fasts to charity should be fasted.

Importance of Safala Ekadashi…
The significance of Safala Ekadashi is described in religious texts as a conversation between Dharmaraja Yudhishthira and Lord Krishna. It is believed that one thousand Ashwamedh Yagyas cannot be given so much benefit as can be done by observing the fast of Safala Ekadashi.

Do not do these tasks on Safala Ekadashi…
On the day of Ekadashi one should sleep on the ground, not on the bed.
-: Do not consume meat, intoxicants, garlic and onion.
-: Doing Datun on the morning of Safala Ekadashi is also considered taboo.
-: It is considered inauspicious to break the flowers and leaves of a tree or plant on this day.

In ancient times, King Mahishmat ruled in the city of Champawati. The king had 4 sons, among them Luke was very wicked and a sinner. He used to destroy father’s wealth in misdeeds. One day, sadly, the king drove him out of the country but still did not lose his habit of looting.

At one time he did not get food for 3 days. During this time, he wandering reached a monk’s hut. Fortunately that day was ‘Safala Ekadashi’. The Mahatma greeted him and gave him food. This behavior of the Mahatma changed his intellect. He fell at the feet of the monk.

The monk made him his disciple and gradually Luke’s character became pure. He started observing Ekadashi fast with the permission of Mahatma. When he changed completely, the Mahatma revealed his true form to him.

His father himself stood in front of the Mahatma. After this, Luke presented the model by assuming the rule and he kept fasting for a lifetime Safala Ekadashi.
