This solstice is celebrated at the beginning of Hemant season. In southern Bhutan and Nepal, it is customary to eat wild potatoes known as Tarul on this day. People celebrate this solstice with great pomp on the first date of the day from which the season begins.

On the day of Dhanu Sankranti, Lord Satyanarayana is worshiped in homes. Bathing in the holy rivers on this day gives freedom from sins. One should worship Sun God on Dhanu Sankranti. It is said that worshiping the sun also brightens your future. Lord Jagannath is worshiped in Odisha on Dhanu Sankranti. On this day, sweet Jagat is offered to Lord Jagannath.
